We provide demanding, high-quality courses with a high level of personal involvement and foster critical thinking and self-motivated learning of our students. We teach our graduates the skills and competencies relevant for facing the challenges of today and tomorrow and provide them with a sense of responsibility as well as a healthy portion of professional pride. Our education shall empower them to (i) conceive and design new structures complying with the multi-faceted demands of modern society, (ii) assess, modify and strengthen existing structures, and (iii) master the challenges of digitalisation in the construction industry. Our best graduates shall be motivated and prepared to continue studying towards a doctoral degree.
We investigate the mechanical behaviour of structural concrete and develop innovative structural designs and concepts including applications of novel building materials in order to (i) maximise the service life of ageing structures with minimum intervention and (ii) minimise the use of resources and CO2 emissions in new constructions. We research novel reinforcement strategies and develop mechanical and computational models in order to ensure the structural integrity of external page digitally fabricated concrete structures and foster their mass-market implementation. Large-scale testing using innovative experimental setups, cutting-edge instrumentation and refined data analysis is key to our research and its impact.
We provide top-level consulting and actively participate in national and international professional societies, expert bodies and code commissions, contributing to the solution of our society’s challenges.
